Surrey is an ever-growing city and with the increased population, there will be more cars on the roads which means there is a higher risk of car accidents.

On Oct. 10, there was a fatal accident on Highway 10 between 128th Street and 132nd Street that closed down the road for several hours.

Then on Oct. 13, there was another fatal accident further along Highway 10 between Scott Road and the off-ramp to Highway 91. Five cars were involved and two Surrey high school students were killed in the crash.

According to a 2013 Statistics Canada table, in B.C. there were 2,738,785 passenger vehicles registered. As of July 2014, 18,338 new cars had been sold in the province.

Considering the is weather changing and roads are becoming slicker, it’s inevitable there will be accidents. On ICBC’s website it shows car accidents in the Lower Mainland as recent as July 31.

Surrey’s worst intersection is King George Boulevard and 88th Avenue with 184 crashes since the beginning of 2013. As opposed to in 2012 where the most accidents recorded were on the Port Mann Bridge in to Surrey.

The intersection with the second-highest rate of crashes is King George Boulevard and 128th Street with 174 accidents.

With 160 accidents, the intersection of King George Boulevard and 72nd Avenue is the third-worst crash site.

The Patullo Bridge, headed toward New Westminster, has had 155 crashes since the beginning of 2013.

King George Boulevard and 64th Avenue is the next highest accident site with 142 car crashes.

On the border of Newton and South Surrey at Highway 10 and 152nd Street, there has been 141 accidents.

The seventh-worst intersection for car crashes is 88th Avenue and 128th Street with 132 accidents.

Along the Delta border at 72nd Avenue and Scott Road (120th Street), there has been 129 car accidents.

At 127 accidents in 2013, King George Boulevard and 56th Avenue is the next worst intersection.

And with 118 crashes, Fraser Highway and 64th Avenue is the tenth-worst intersection for car accidents.
